The Conlons needed a home that extended family and friends would utilise as an informal home. Our approach was to create a house with distinct zones that are clearly defined but connected visually. This allows multiple uses of the house to comfortably function at the same time. Family members can plug into social events or withdraw to various private spaces as they please.
The winding quality of the rear lanes extends into the house where several terraced layers create a journey through the various living spaces. The outdoor spaces have been combined into one flowing area by turning roof spaces into hanging gardens. A derelict carriagehouse became the pivotal element that the main house wraps around, forming a central square where indoor meets outdoor and the family can gather. |
